Husband and wife team, JASON and JENNIFER SMITH are the owners of JSF – Fast, Intense, Interval Training, a personal training studio on 16th Street just south of Camelback Road. While this studio is relatively new, Jason has been in the personal training business for many years. We could talk about their life story and how the family business came to be, but let's get down to the nitty gritty instead, with this no holds barred interview.
JASON: I can honestly say it’s perfect. I don’t want to come in to the studio without her.
JENNIFER: Watching him interact with his clients; his passion. I never saw that previous to working with him at the studio. [Jason interrupts and says factiously, “It’s like watching a fine-tuned machine at work!”]
JASON: There is really nothing I could say is a challenge. I’ve talked to other couples working together and there are some real stories of dysfunction. Again, I want her to be here with me every day.
JENNIFER: We’re here on the weekends practicing routines or cleaning. It’s the nature of owning and operating a small business.
JASON: Our relationship outside of the business is the same as it is in here. Communication is a key factor. You really shouldn't even need to ask. If a couple or families members are expressing a desire to work together in a small business, they should automatically know whether it is a good idea. If there are any doubts, simply don’t do it.
